19 Nov 2025, 8:26 PM
Jaipur, 19 November.
For the first time in history, under the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Art & Culture Diya Kumari, the Rajasthan Tourism Department organised a grand Ghoomar Festival simultaneously across all seven divisional headquarters of the state on Wednesday. The objective was to give new direction to Rajasthan’s folk culture, traditional arts, and community-participation-based cultural model.
This historic event has been registered in the Asia Book of Records, where nearly 6,000 women performed Ghoomar together across the seven divisions of Rajasthan.
The state-level Ghoomar Festival was held at the football ground of Vidyadhar Nagar Stadium in Jaipur, where a massive number of women participated, bringing Rajasthan’s cultural traditions to life. The rhythmic blend of beats, melodies, and synchronised choreography showcased the grandeur of Rajasthan’s cultural heritage.
Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari inaugurated the festival by playing the nagara. She greeted the women present in the stadium and extended blessings to the sisters and daughters. She said that the time has come to pass Rajasthan’s folk culture, folk arts, and heritage to the new generation. To take the globally symbolic Ghoomar dance to the world stage, such festivals will now be organised every year on a much larger scale.
At the event, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Art & Culture Diya Kumari, along with Jaipur MP Smt. Manju Sharma and other distinguished women, also performed Ghoomar, highlighting the cultural magnificence of the state and encouraging the participating young women and girls. She also interacted with and motivated the participants at the ground.
One of the highlights of the festival was the presentation of the oldest traditional Ghoomar style on the song “Ek Baar Ho Piya Jaipur Shahar Padhar Jo…”
Diya Kumari said that the state government's priority is to create a sustainable model that integrates cultural traditions with public participation and innovation, enabling Rajasthan’s tourism to emerge in a broader and stronger form. She added that a comprehensive plan is being prepared to establish the Ghoomar Festival as a long-term cultural identity of the state. The possibility of including it in the national and international cultural calendar will also be explored.
A tribute was paid to the late Padma Shri Govardhan Kumari, who dedicated her life to preserving Ghoomar and other folk dances of the state. A short documentary showcasing her significant contributions and achievements in cultural preservation was screened.
A Massive Turnout of Jaipur Residents
A large number of women, especially young girls, participated in the Ghoomar Festival. Dignitaries, students, and citizens arrived at Vidyadhar Nagar Stadium to witness the celebration.

Vibrant Performances Illuminate the Festival
The program began with the artists of Gangaur Dance Academy performing Ghoomar on “Lanjo… Mharu Aalaji Leta Aijo…” depicting a married woman requesting her husband to bring her jewellery and adornments, with the condition that they must be studded with precious stones.
In the “Jalal-Bilala” presentation, a longing heroine pleads with her confidante to send her husband to her with respect.
Girls from the Swordsmanship Association showcased techniques of self-defense and attack, energising the crowd. The CRPF band also delivered captivating performances.
